Northern Illinois Al-Anon/Alateen Assemblies

Overview

Assemblies are held three times a year in January, May, and September.

Friday evening is the opening session, and is an open speaker meeting with refreshments. All Al-Anon members and interested members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend.

Saturday is a business meeting.

An Assembly is...

... a meeting for group representatives (GRs) of each Al-Anon/Alateen group in Northern Illinois, and any other interested Al-Anon member, to discuss the service side of Al-Anon. These meetings help inform Al-Anon members of activities and opportunities that support Al-Anon's existence in Northern Illinois. Ultimately, the purpose is to strengthen each group in Northern Illinois, and assist those who need the help of Al-Anon.

Who should attend?

GRs, District Representatives (DRs), area coordinators, officers, and any interested Al-Anon member.

One of the duties of a GR is to attend assemblies and bring a report of area happenings back to their group. In this way, the GR is the vital link between his/her group and other Al-Anon/Alateen groups in Northern Illinois. In addition, it is the GR that elects area officers. These elections occur in September, every three years. To insure the health of the area, it is important that GRs attend assemblies. When a GR cannot attend, the alternate group representative goes in their place.

Assemblies are:

  • Informative
  • An opportunity to see Al-Anon in a different way
  • Fun
  • Helpful
  • Inexpensive (only $3.00 and that includes lunch!)
  • An experience that promotes program growth
